A very small amount of new growth...

There's slow progress, but still fun...

Goals for this week are:

-Move the greenhouse to the back of the deck to catch more sun.
-Put a warming light in the greenhouse.
-Clean out 4-foot-square gardens.
-Soak and plant some peas.

Getting A Jumpstart on Spring.

There is nothing quite as exciting or magical as when seeds begin to sprout and lift their little heads. I don't think that I will ever tire of it.  I planted some basil a few weeks ago and then got the fever on President's Weekend two weeks ago to get at least something started as it has been the mildest winter that I can recall in Utah.  Really I should have peas in the ground, but haven't got the square foot gardens ready for anything quite yet.

Cress.  I've never planted it before.  I like the little heart shaped leaves though.  I wasn't sure if it would come up this early, but it was first to show.

Planted chives that returned on their own outside on the deck.

Container Strawberries Returning from last year.

We always need to have something going.  We've been buying mint and basil as plants from the grocery section.  We go through the basil so fast that it just ends up stems and then dies.  About a month ago I got some green bowls from all a dollar as well as cheap colanders and made my own little planter.  I put in one store bought plant and surrounded it with little basil seeds.

Store bought thread bare basil which we have consumed quickly.
Lots of progress going on with my baby basil and new life emerging from other seeds every day.  It's fun to see the varying stages from 2 leaves to four and then onward and upward!

I decided that we need EVEN MORE basil and I ended up planting a whole entire tray on Friday morning.  February 27, 2015.

It's cool how the gelatinous glob forms around the little seed as the little embryo begins to emerge.
